Texas Ten Step Program – Endorsed by the Texas Medical Association, this program is designed to encourage hospitals to reach the goal of having 75 percent of their mothers breastfeeding at discharge.

Breastfeeding Trainings – Designed to prepare health-care providers to support breastfeeding women and their infants. All levels of health care workers directly affecting breastfeeding women and their infants are encouraged to attend.

Studies show that provider encouragement can increase breastfeeding initiation by more than threefold among low-income, young, and less educated women; by nearly fivefold among black women; and by nearly 11-fold among single women.
